But Ruth replied, "Don't urge me to leave you or to turn back from you. Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God."—Ruth 1:16 (NIV)
Ruth is stating that; although she grew up in an idolatrous and mufti-theistic society, she will not only have the One true God as her God,...she is also leaving behind all sentimental or superstitious attachments, and clinging to God as the single object of her devotion and worship. Ruth was making an exclusive commitment, not only to her mother-in-law, but to the God of Israel.
Don't allow your affections and attention to be still splintered in a thousand different
directions, by every unchecked appetites, attractions, or the fear of what others will think.
Holy Spirit, emboldened us with Ruth's courage to follow through with our commitments. empower us to tell our family, friends, and
co-workers, that we will not be dissuaded from our
decision to follow after Christ. Amen.
"We will always have place at our Father's table,...and in His
heart."
