Remember

Good Morning My Friends!! Not only is this the last Spiritual Food of the year,...after more than twelve years, it's the last Spiritual Food message I'll be sending out. I want to thank you all so much, for allowing me to share the Word, and walking with me as I grew. That small still voice that guides, is leading me in another direction now. Sometimes in our Christian walk, we can get pretty forgetful. In the beginning we are so thankful and excited to discover a loving Savior who forgives our brokenness. The wrong signals of the world that left us in the dark are a thing of the past. And yet, as time goes by, we forget the goodness, we forget the compassion, we forget the loving kindness that was shown to us. And sometimes when we encounter others who are still struggling and stumbling,...we forget how lost we once were, and we forget to show them the way to the One who can repair their broken lives.
I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body,—2 Peter 1:13 (NIV)

I think Peter was right to encourage us to refresh our memory. Only by remembering where we've been can we truly reach out to those who need Christ’s mending power. It is my wish and prayer, that you would continue after me to reach out and encourage others, and minister to their very souls. My God keep and bless us one and all.

Don't just look to the Light,...Be the Light.

Father God, You are so good to us. You mend our brokenness and heal our wounds. Don’t allow us now to forget what marvelous grace You've shown us. Refresh our memories and teach us to reach out to a hurting world. In Jesus' Name, we pray. Amen.

Dealing With Anxiety And Fear

Good Morning!! Sometimes we forget that God’s Word is living and active, and in It we can find every answer to our every need. There are times when our experiences overwhelm us, and we can’t see the whole picture,...but God's Word is our guide. Jesus told His disciples, "You trust in God, now trust in me." He was saying you can always take God's Word at face value in any situation.
In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials.—1 Peter 1:6 (NIV)

If life's problems have left you feeling lonely and depressed, remember Christ's words,..."I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."  see, Christ has not left us alone. Trust in God’s Word. Allow these truths to dispel the lie of your emotions,...and peace will be our companion until Christ returns for us.

Peace fills our hearts when we take God at His Word.

Father God, we thank You for Your Word that never changes,...and still communicates Your love, truth, and guidance everyday. Thank You for prayer so that we can talk with You anytime. Mostly, we thank You for heaven, our eternal home. Help us not to be overly concerned with this world, but to keep our gaze upward anticipating Your return. In Jesus' Name, we pray. Amen.

"When you are behaving as if you love someone, you will soon come to love them."

A Peaceful Place

Good Morning!! Home,...it's where we go to refuel, restore, replenish. We are all warriors,...going out into the world, where we fight for a living. But the homecoming of the weary warrior, is not always what we envisioned. We're often greeted with a snippy remark, screaming children and a frozen bed. Immediately we just want to turn, and run back to the fighting world, where at least we know who the enemy is. And a lot of the time, the world not only seems to be winning, we can feeling like the victims of water torture. That's when you are restrained, lying face up with water hitting you on the forehead, right between the eyes,…one drip at a time. It has been known to drive people crazy. Just the craving for it to stop, can be maddening.
A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.—Proverbs 15:13 (NIV)
Peace,...that's all any of us really want, that one place we feel safe,...where we can find rest. Surrounded by people we love, and that love us back. Compliments, instead of complaints. People we work with, and for. But we can't just look for it,...we have to be it for others as well. ask yourselves; are you practicing water torture on the people in your lives? Are you killing them, one drop at a time? Relationships don’t fail overnight; it takes months, sometimes years of maddening quarrels to finally snap the final thread of sanity. Which means there's still a chance to turn things around,...to make, and have, a peace-filled home.

You can be the towel that wipes the sweat from your weary warrior's brow,...or the drip that drives him mad.

Heavenly Father, we praise You for giving us Your Words of wisdom. Teach us today how to be encouragers, and not discouragers,... who hug and not harm,...who lift up, and not drip quarrels onto weary hearts. Forgive us when our homes don’t reflect Your love. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
"When you are behaving as if you love someone, you will soon come to love them."

Will To Live, Sin Free

Good Morning!! Before you came to Christ and received new life, you could sin and get away with it. You could be angry with your neighbor and let them know it, too! The Spirit of God was not living within, convicting you of your sin. However, once you've invited Christ to be Lord of your life, the battle is on, and the choice is yours. Now when you get angry with someone, the Spirit of God whispers to your spirit, "Love your neighbor." Will you obey your own desire or the will of God?

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness.—Romans 6:18 (NIV)...because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.—Romans 8:2 (NIV)

The Spirit of God will always convict us of our sin, but He will not force us to walk in the light of obedience. Sin is not our biggest problem,...it is our will. If we will surrender our will to God each day, acknowledging that He is the supreme authority over our lives, and then choose to walk in obedience throughout the day, we will experience victory over sin! I'm not saying you will never sin,...but when you are yielded to the Holy Spirit, you have the power not to sin,...and the result is freedom!

To conquer our sin natures, we must daily allow the Spirit of God to work in and with us.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we have been living life our own way. We now desire that You be first in our lives. We desire that You be king over our thoughts, attitudes, passions, dreams,...and actions. Therefore, we surrender our will to You. Please, fill us with Your Holy Spirit,...and live out Your nature of love, joy, and peace through us. Thank You Father for hearing and answering our prayers. In Jesus' name. Amen.

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests."

A Purpose, To Finish

Good Morning!! One of the biggest problems for most of us is that we lack focus. There’s so much that we want to do, that we often get scattered. We allow ourselves to be pulled in multiple directions, intrigued by the possibilities of new and exciting project,..or the options associated with current ones. But finishing something requires discipline that doesn’t come naturally. Jesus, on the other hand, is the perfect picture of focus and discipline. When the disciples wanted Jesus to eat, here is His response:

"My food," said Jesus, "is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish His work.John 4:34 (NIV)

In the verses before John 4:34 Jesus had reached out to a Samarian woman while the disciples went to find some food. It’s the middle of a warm day. Jesus is weary from the journey and probably hungry. Yet, He is focused on the eternal needs of a woman who is living a life far from God. Jesus knows what His Father has asked Him to do and is committed to "finish" this work. In this passage, Jesus models clarity of purpose, perseverance and compassion; all characteristics that we should have.

An obedient life, is defined by discipline.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for forgiving us when we fall short. Help us to be more like Jesus. Show us Your priorities for our lives, and help us be more focused on Your Will, and work. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

"Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests."

Lay A Lasting Foundation

Good Morning!! Jesus described the ones who heard Him as builders,...He then described the choices every builder has to make. He promised that if we listen to what God says and apply what we hear, we will build our house (or our life) on a solid foundation. He also warned that if we hear Him, but do not put do what He tells us, we are building a house (or a life) without any foundation. The first option gives us a house that will last the test of time. The second option is like building on sinking sand and that house will be washed away by the storms of life. Jesus tells us the same thing I want to tell my friends and family, "Be careful what you build with, it determines how your story ends."

As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like.Luke 6:47 (NIV)

The world will tell us to build our foundation with the materials of power, performance and prestige. Television commercials communicate that academics, athletics and appearance pave the way to success,...but Jesus says the opposite. He describes a successful life as one built on the foundation of His word. He knows that academics, athletics and appearance will take us places, but only character will keep us there. All throughout scripture we find Him talking about the condition and character of our heart,...because that is what matters most. Without the foundation of responsibility, perseverance, trustworthiness and patience,...when the harsh circumstances of reality come, and trust me they will come,...the houses we have built will all come tumbling down.

This is an important truth to apply in our own lives, and also to pass on to others,...because we're not only building our foundation,...we're laying groundwork for others to build on as well.

Father God, we want to build foundations that will last. We want to leave legacies worth living. Teach us the value of Your Word, and Ways. The world’s measuring stick tempts us away from the truest measure of success: to have a heart that reflects Your character. Help us to hear Your Words,...and apply what we hear, and lay a lasting foundation for our lives,...and those that are watching us. Amen!

The Plan Works, If You Work It

Good Morning!! God's has a unique plan for each and every one of us. God reveals His plan through the Bible! It is the instruction book of life, the blueprint for life construction, the road map for the journey. When we saturate our lives with God's Word it will naturally lead us, and guide us into His plan for our lives! Our greatest opportunity for success in this life,…and the next life, is to live that plan. God tucks into our very soul a discontentment with anything but His life "plan". If we approach each day searching for His handprints in every situation,…choosing to walk in obedience to His Word,…we will surely find ourselves smack dab in the middle of God's amazing purpose and plan.

" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)

It's just this simple; the more time we spend with the Plan Maker,…the more we choose to obey that plan,…the clearer His plan grows. God always reveals His plan to an obedient heart. Yet there are times when we leave Him out of our plans, and go our own foolish way. Still, He waits. When the results are disastrous and we have made a mess of it all,…He stands ready to begin again! We could save ourselves a lot of pain and futility, if we’d simply read and follow the right set of directions!

The amazing truth is that; more than we want to know His plan for our life, He wants us to know it.

Father, we know that in our own strength, and our own life's plan there is only sorrow and failure. Today, We choose You! We choose Your plan for our lives instead of our own,...and embrace the purpose for which we were created,...to please You with obedient hearts. Amen!

"Asking for God's blessing in our lives, should mean more of Him,...not just more stuff."

Sometimes You Just Need To Get Away

Good Morning!! Most of today I felt like an Ostrich. I wanted to stick my head in the sand and ignore everyone else.  I felt like being alone.  I didn’t want to talk on the phone, text or email.  This morning I went work, and every where I turned someone needed to talk to me, show me something or ask me for something. Even at Quick Trip where I stopped for coffee, a chatty woman stood in front of me, as we were waiting check-out.  She continued to talk to me even after she had paid,…she  talked non-stop. She reminded me of a chirping canary.  I paid for  my coffee, and dashed to my truck,..still smiling. Today I was an ostrich, but maybe tomorrow I could be a canary. Some days I need my ostrich-type solitude. Other times, my own canary self tweets for companionship, and camaraderie.
At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place. The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.—Luke 4:42 (NIV)

My introverted self needs time alone,…the extroverted part of my personality needs fellowship. God created us with both needs. Scripture proves this to us by using Jesus as an example. Various verses describe how He interacted with the multitudes. The Bible portrays how the 12 disciples, were his closet friends. Many verses illustrate that James, John, and Peter became his inner circle of confidants. Jesus loved people and living in community with them. Yet other Scriptures tells us, "At day break Jesus went out to a solitary place."  Another verse confirms His need for aloneness: "But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed" (Luke 5:16, NIV). Jesus needed people,…and He required solitude.

Especially at this hectic time of year, we often feel emotionally frazzled and physically exhausted.
We overspend, overeat, and just plain overdo everything.

Father, give us the sense to realize that we can’t do everything we want to do,…or believe we have to.  Grant us wisdom to know when we need solitude.  Call us away to pray with You, when we begin to overdo it,  in our activities. We ask You to aid us in finding a balance in our lives with people, activities and with You. In Jesus’ Sweet Name, we pray. Amen.

Death Comes Again, And Again

Good Morning!! Earlier yesterday evening, I suffered another unbelievably painful lost...my very first cousin, my first best friend, and my number one fan,...Eva Louise Prater, passed. Only six months younger than me, she died from heart-failure,...aided by a series of other ailments. And once again, I thought of my loss, the void now created in my life,...one less person I have to comfort and support me. I've dealt with the death of loved ones before,....the things you wished you had done more or better,...the realization of things you'll never be able to do again. When faced with death, we run through a lot of emotions,...guilt, regret, anger, self-pity, fear, despair and hopelessness,...but for some reason, self-pity, is the one we seem to do to first,...and stay on the longest.

Then I heard a voice from heaven say, "Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on." "Yes," says the Spirit, "they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them."—Revelation 14:13 (NIV)

While self-pity is a natural emotion, we must not become absorbed in it, if allowed to go unchecked, it can be extremely destructive to us, as well as those close to us. If we can remain focused, on first seeking, and then accepting God's will, even the most painful experiences can pass through our lives without stealing our peace and our joy, for any real period of time. I prayed for, and wanted healing, even if it wasn't God's will,...but I'm not broken because it did not come,...I choose to go on believing; God is still God, and He is always in control. It hurts! But I will continue to do, as I have been taught,...I will Pray, and Trust God!

Losing one's self, in self-pity can stir up jealousy, envy, and even strife,...things which only blind us further to God's will.

Remember no matter what you are going through, or have yet to go through..."God is a safe dwelling place, in any and all, of life's storms."

"Asking for God's blessing in our lives, should mean more of Him,...not just more stuff."

Watching

Good Morning!! We haven’t changed much since the times of the prophets who lived in the Old Testament. Like us, their lives were hard, defined by illness, pain and brokenness. With uncertain futures, they were desperate for escape. A small and insignificant nation,...the Hebrews longed for a reason to celebrate, to abandon themselves to music and food and dancing, to forget the hopeless past, and anticipate a fruitful future. What about you?...Do you ever feel like these people of long ago,...desperate, uncertain, lonely, fearful, conflicted, wishing for a party, or an event that would wipe out all your cares, and celebrate the good times,...a celebration that would never end? Maybe you catch yourself looking to people in high places, hoping for a significant someone to come along and fix it all,...someone with all the answers and solutions?

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.—Isaiah 9:6 (NIV)
Prophets, priests, and patriarchs WATCHED for signs. They believed a king would liberate them from oppressive rulers. They watched for a great commander to march into the land,...returning what was rightfully theirs. But after watching for a conquering king to gallop onto the scene with his armies, a Son was given,...but he wasn’t a royal ruler. He wasn’t a hero who managed mightily from a powerful throne set in a high palace. Those who sought a  marching monarch eventually learned, that the Prince of Peace snuggled quietly on a bale of hay in a manger. And now we Watch,...for Him to come again.

Jesus, is the promised Son who has come to conquer our desperation.
He is the reason we celebrate.

Help us to realize that burying ourselves in holiday busyness, will only multiply our desperate state,...increase our loneliness, fuel our fear, and feed our uncertainty. Lord, we want to come before You like the prophets and priests who watched for Your arrival, like the wise men and shepherds who laid down their worldly possessions. We bow before You, in celebration of Your nativity and in Your Name we pray, Amen.

"Asking for God's blessing in our lives, should mean more of Him,...not just more stuff."

Peace Will come,...We Have A Helper

Good Morning, It's Another Beautiful, Blessed Friday!! Have you ever had times in your life when you needed a holy hug? There are days when nothing else will do, but for the Father to wrap His loving arms around us,...reminding us of Jesus' precious promises, to calm all our fears, and worries. "In this world you will have trouble," Jesus warned. "But take heart! I have overcome the world." (John 16:33). And especially today's scripture.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you, as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.—John 14:27 (NIV)

The Holy Spirit speaks words to our spirits to give us comfort, peace, and reassurance. Sometimes outsiders may not understand how we can have such peace in our lives, when there is such turmoil all around us,...but that's o.k., the peace given by the Holy Spirit is supernatural, and surpasses all understanding. We just need to remind them, that they can have it too.

If you are truly a believer, then you know Jesus is always with us,...and that provides a peace that is truly heaven sent,...the comfort only of the Holy Spirit!

Sweet Spirit of God, for all in need, give an extra measure of Your peace and comfort today. There are storms raging all around us, and at times, we might fear, that we will be taken over. However, we choose to believe that our Father in Heaven, is in total control of our lives, and that peace will come to our soul,...and that You will calm our anxious hearts. Thank You right now, for loving us, even on days when we fret and worry. It's in Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

With The Father, Through The Son

Good Morning!! What do you want for Christmas this year...peace for your situation, joy for your sadness, assurance or comfort in your fears, or is it guidance for your future? Why not ask God for those things? So much of our focus this time of year, is self-centered, instead of Christ-centered. With every new catalog arriving in the mail, or t.v commercial we see, the list grows,...the list complied of all that we wish for. Honestly, I still find myself doing the same thing...making a list of things I want. But when did Christmas become all about "me" ? I believe that when we fall into this "me" trap,...we consequently miss Christmas altogether. Christmas is, and should only be about one person...God's Son. So often our problem is that we seek Christ's blessings, rather than seeking Him,...as if He were none other than Santa Claus.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you."—Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

The Word does after-all say, "Ask, and it shall be given to you." The problem is we are asking for the wrong thing. God desires that we seek Him above all else, and then trust that He will provide whatever we need. Most of us tend to go about it in the wrong way,...backwards. Our motive is for God to give us our longings,...and then we will worship Him.

As of yet, we haven't fully realized that all we desire is wrapped up in the person of Jesus Christ,...and if we have Him,...we have it all!

Father God, we confess that we have sought Your hand more than Your heart. Help us come to realize that what we should desire the most, is You. Please fill us with Your presence so that we may experience life this season,...and forever,...the way You intended. In Jesus' name. Amen.
" Remember Jesus Is the reason,...for the season ."

Choose More Love

Good Morning!! Winston Churchill said, "We make a living through what we get, but we make a life through what we give." The world would like us to believe that the success of Christmas depends upon how much we spend, how many presents we give or receive. While Christmas is about giving,...giving is not dependent on the condition of your checkbook,...giving is dependent on the condition of your heart. Budgets do not, and should not determine the success of our Christmas giving.
"Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.".—Luke 6:38 (NIV)

What can you purchase within the next week or two, that would be an adequate substitute for more time with a spouse, grand-parent, parent, sibling, or a child, that is no longer here. If the love of Christ is in you, pour it into those you truly love,...and that love you,...and want more of your time. Christmas is not just one day,...we should be giving, and loving, all year long. Your loving memories, are made one day at a time, and can be cherished always. It's up to you,...more stuff you won't remember after awhile,...or more love forever?

This could be your best Christmas ever,...simply by receiving God's gift of Love,...and by giving more of yourself to the ones you love.

May "God grant the light in Christmas which is faith; the warmth of Christmas, which is love; the radiance of Christmas, which is purity;  the righteousness of Christmas, which is justice; the belief in Christmas, which is truth; the all of Christmas, which is Christ." Amen.
" Remember Jesus Is the reason,...for the season ."

We Celebrate His Birth

Good Morning!! Another Christmas is almost upon us. Imagine a birthday party thrown in your honor,...the house is decorated, the food is prepared, the festive music is playing and the guests arrive, arms filled with gifts, laughing with expectation and joy of the celebration ahead. The time comes to open gifts,...each person is seated as the brightly wrapped gifts are exchanged. Everyone receives a gift,...everyone that is but you. I know, it is a ridiculous scenario. Yet, every year, thousands celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ by giving gifts to everyone in their lives, but Him.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.—Romans 12:1 (NIV)

And even on those rare times that we do give Him a gift, it's not the one thing that He has asked us for, over and over again,...obedience. Our gifts of stale, or warmed over worship and praise tell a different story, from that of our mouths. Praise is a continual choice that we should be making, again and again,...until it becomes a habit. Don't allow anyone or any circumstance to steal your joy, or keep you from praising and worshiping God! It's what keeps us kneeling before the manger, and is truly a gift fit for the King. In other words, the best Christmas gift we can give Jesus Christ is ourselves.

Obedience is the choice to do what God wants us to do,...not just an outward motion but an inner attitude.

Jesus, this year we want to celebrate Your birth, and Your life. We thank You for coming to earth as a baby, bringing life and hope to us all. We surrender to You.  May each day be a celebration of Who You Are in our lives. In Your name, I pray. Amen.

" Remember Jesus Is the reason,...for the season ."

Christmas

Good Morning!! The literal meaning of "Christmas" is "Christ's Mass",...the celebration of Christ. And isn't that what we all want,...a joy-filled Christmas that truly celebrates Christ? Yet, the holiday season often leaves us with very little joy, and a feeling of emptiness. So how then, can we have a joy-filled Christmas? I believe that the secret to the celebration of Christmas is found in giving. Maybe we are giving the wrong gifts. It could be that we're giving gifts to the wrong people. Or, maybe we are not receiving the right gifts.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son,...—John 3:16a (NIV)

Christmas is not a date on the calendar, but rather a way of life. Like the innkeeper, we are often guilty of posting a sign across the entrance of our hearts that reads, "No room!"  We can participate in every festivity of the Christmas season, but until we receive the gift of Jesus Christ, we will never truly experience Christmas. To have a Christ-centered Christmas, we must not only recognize Him as the center of a season, but the center of our entire life as well,...every part of it,...every day of the year.

The greatest of all miracles, The Son of God,...came in the midst of total simplicity.

Father God, we are so tired of shallow and meaningless Christmas sales and celebrations. This year, we want to experience You and a Christmas filled with Your Joy.  Right now, we give ourselves to You and ask that You would forgive our sins and take control of our lives. We invite Your gift, Your Son, to reign as Lord and Savior. Thank You, Father, for Your love and Your mercy. We are Yours. Amen.

" Remember Jesus Is the reason,...for the season ."

Wraped In Love

Good Morning!! In the third Chapter of Colossians, we are advised of our new wardrobe. A wardrobe that is imperishable. We are told to clothe ourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. However, the most important piece of clothing we must wear is love. Love binds us all these things together, in perfect harmony. We are told to clothe our hearts with the peace that comes from Christ ruling there.
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.—Colossians 3:12 (NIV)

When the Holy Spirit begins to perform a makeover in our hearts, we often balk at changes but eventually see that He knows best and wants the very best for us. He cleans us up, and clothes our hearts and minds with the beautiful clothing described in this portion of scripture. I want my heart to be a place where the Spirit wants to dwell,...don't you?

These "clothes" that our Father provides, never go out of style,...and they never wear out!

Holy Spirit we thank You, that You have come to live in our hearts. We ask that You make all the changes You need to make, in order for our hearts to be a place where You want to live. Forgive us when we balk at the changes You want to make in us. Help us to be totally submissive to The Father's Will. We invite You to give our hearts and mind a complete, total makeover. Amen.

Looking For A Hero

Good Morning!! Jesus came to save the world, but first He came to save God's beloved chosen people, the Jews.  The Jews had been slaves, their enemies continually attacked them without mercy and they lived in fear. Redemption to the Jews would have meant being set free from bondage or buying back something that had been sold or lost - such as their freedom and hope. Zechariah was looking for relief from all his people had endured. Jesus was the answer to everything Zechariah needed.
"Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.—Luke 1:68 (NIV)

Today, the coming of Jesus is the answer to everything we need. We too have experienced being slaves to sin and addictions, we too have experienced attack from enemies who show no mercy and we too have lived in fear. We need, and seek a Savior,...who will rescue us.

Whatever you are facing, I invite you to consider Jesus as your Redeemer too.

Heavenly Father, we praise You for Your awesome power and love. Thank You for sending Jesus as our Redeemer and Rescuer. Help us to place our trust in Jesus to protect us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

" Is it possible that the greatest threat America faces may be God Himself, as He withholds His mercy,...and exercise His righteous judgment?"
