Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.—Colossians 2:16, 17 (NIV)
Tension existed in the Colossian church over the niceties of religious observance. Some people were teaching the Colossians that to be true followers of Jesus they had to observe dietary restrictions and perform specific religious duties. Paul condemns that line of thought, instead stressing the freedom we have in Christ, a freedom that makes legalistic practices irrelevant.
Legalistic religion, is of no value in stopping the indulgence of the flesh.
Lord, teach us the real holiness, that’s found in knowing You.
"Christians extending hospitality to others, aren't trying to impress people,...they're just trying to reflect God."
