Parents Aren't Perfect, But Obey Them Anyway

Good Morning!! Young people may sometimes feel as though their parents don't understand them,...but that's o.k., Jesus' parents didn't understand Him either. In fact, the verse before today's, (v.50) specifically mentions "they did not understand" what Jesus was saying to them. We can, at times, have some difficulty overlooking our parents' flaws. But imagine what it was like for Jesus, who was absolutely perfect, to have parents who were both sinners! Every day would be an occasion for offense, and fault-finding,...if Jesus had wanted to criticize them.

Then He went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.Luke 2:51a (NIV)

But here is this remarkable statement about Jesus: "He was obedient to his parents." Regardless of their failures, regardless of their inability to fully understand Him,...Jesus obeyed and honored his parents! What about you? Are you listening to your friends,...or are you looking at Jesus? Are you following the crowd,...or are you respecting your parents? If Jesus voluntarily submitted Himself to the leadership, of His flawed and sinful parents, what possible excuse can we give for disregarding our own parents? If Jesus could overlook His parents faults, when He had none Himself,...how much more should we be able to forgive and look over our parents' failings,...knowing that we too are sinners.

Honor thy mother and thy father,...not because they are perfect,...but because God says so.

Lord, our parents weren't perfect,...and we won't be perfect parents either,...no matter how much we may wish, or pray. We just pray that our actions and words, never get in the way of our Love. Amen.

"If we engage with fools, we run the risk of becoming as foolish as they are."
