Are you rich toward God?

Good Morning!! We live our lives on an endless treadmill of acquisition,...frantically amassing more and more stuff. Like the rich farmer who kept gathering and collecting, more and more,...oblivious to the source of all his blessings,...that is until the voice of God came whispering: "You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?" (v. 20).

"This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God."—Luke 12:21 (NIV)

Give a person money, and take them to a store for the first time, and you won't have to spend much time teaching them what to do. Thousands of hours of advertising has already taught us that our calling in life is to consume,...possess,...and amass. Take that same person to church for the first time, and they will be disoriented, confused. They won't be sure of how to act,...they will be unsure of their role, or place in service. What does this tell us about our priorities?

Get off the treadmill.
It’s okay to possess things,...but it’s not okay for things to possess you.

Accumulation was never meant to be the driving force of our life.
Father, show us our greed, and then forgive us, for placing our desire for stuff above our desire for You. Amen.

"Our biggest challenge to maintaining commitment,...is keeping focused on God's work ."
